With so many films deserving recognition for their ingenious plots, great acting or great effects. Instead it has been narrowed down to the top five that encompasses everything a top-notch sci-fi movie should.

5. “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”

This movie marks the second in the series released, by George Lucas and it was directed by the talented Irvin Kershner to be the darkest of all the Star Wars films. It offers the viewer a nail-biting plot as Luke discovers his true heritage, betrayal from friends, and an uncertain fate will await Hans Solo.

4. “Alien”

The first in its series the movie, by Ridley Scott brings a mix of sci-fi with horror in this futuristic film that looks more like Armageddon in space. For the new viewer this movie will add killer suspense, an alien that uses humans as a host, and a stellar cast to bring the movie home.

3. “Star Wars: A New Hope”

Like many films before it, the first is always best. “Star Wars” isn’t any different as George Lucus gives us the first insight into his world. Action, adventure, special effects never seen before, machinery like AT-AT or light sabers and terms like Jedi grace the screen.

2. “2001: A Space Odyssey”

Back in 1968, Stanley Kubrick releases this stellar film about the year 2001 in space and beyond. Astronauts find existence of an alien race, in the presence of a monolith, that will change the world forever.

1. “Blade Runner”

Another Ridley Scott hit, this film flashes forward to 2019, and shows us Los Angeles as an anti-utopia. Shortly after you’re introduced to Rick Deckard – the blade runner, and his newest mission to track down genetically engineered robots.

Science fiction films did not always have the range of topics they do today. Originally, they dealt with technology that was fantastical at the time. Released in 1902 and considered the first science fiction film, Le Voyage dans la Lune depicted space travel to the moon. The next decade or two found film makers exploring pioneering ideas, often merging science fiction with horror.

The decade of the 1930′s saw several comic strips adapted into films, which opened up the possible directions that the genre could take. This decade also saw the birth of big budget film making, and a great many iconic science fiction movies were created. Films such as King Kong, Flash Gordon and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. By this time studios and writers began to realize the lucrative future these films could have. Thus, the “golden age of the science fiction film” was ushered in.

The 50′s brought with them intense interest from the public into all things science and technology related. The dawn and spread of the television no doubt assisted science fiction’s meteoric rise. Great leaps were made in special effects, including the use of stop motion animation to a more realistic degree. Interest waned in the 60′s, but the few films that were made turned the genre upside down. Stanley Kubrick created 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is to this day a classic. Films such as The Planet of the Apes gave science fiction a way to comment on social situations in society.

After the manned lunar missions, science fiction became popular again. The leaps and bounds in computer technology increased the special effects possibilities. Nowhere was this more evident than in movies such as The Terminator and the Matrix. Considering how far it has come, there is no telling where it can go.

A series of six films-episode began in 1977. movie Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope (originally titled Star Wars) and then became pop culture phenomenon, spreading to more movies, books, computer games, television shows and in many other areas. 2005th year, Forbes Magazine (engl. Forbes Magazine) has estimated the overall revenue from Star Wars brand (over 28 years) to over $ 20 billion

The story of Star Wars is set in deep space, that is, as stated at the beginning of each film: A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

The plot is full of archetypal motif of science fiction, and from mythology. It is a great example of a sub-genre of science fiction – space opera.

The only indication of time in Star Wars is the initial text in every movie: Once upon a time, in the distant galaxy …. This is an allusion to the beginning of a great number of fairy tales: Once upon a time, in a distant land … or the like, which may indicate the interpretation of films as a myth the future, not the literal belief that the action takes place somewhere in the past. It may also indicate that the movies belonging to the science fantasy, not science fiction. Lucas himself has left it open to interpretation. Although it is not clear when the action takes place, the entire range of Star Wars fiction covering the period from 25,000 years ago, while films cover a period of just two generations (32 BBY – 4 ABY).

All Star Wars characters come from the same galaxy (except race called the Yuuzhan Vong that appears in a series of stories New Jedi Order). Unlike traditional science fiction films that preceded them, Star Wars describes the world as dark and dirty, rather than sleek and futuristic. In interviews, Lucas has said that the new props smeared with earth and dirt to give them a worn look. Influence on him was made ??Sergio Leone, who worked a similar thing in his western films of the 60s. This separation from the tradition of science fiction has had a major impact on the emergence of cyberpunk genre that emerged around the 1984.

The first half of the Star Wars story revolves around Anakin Skywalker, the man whose struggle between light and dark side reflects the destiny of the entire galaxy. The first three films, known as the previous trilogy, shows Anakin as a talented young Jedi (peacekeepers and representatives of the Bright side of the Force) and its fall towards the dark side of the Force, led by Lord of the Sith. Anakin becomes Darth Vader. Darth Sidious, his teacher, skillful machinations leading to the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the new Galactic Empire, which marks the beginning of civil war.

The second part of the series, also known as the original trilogy (because these films are first recorded), revolves around Anakinovog son, Luke Skywalker, who becomes a member of the Rebel Alliance that is trying to destroy the Galactic Empire. Onions can be trained and become a Jedi last (and first new generation, according to literary sequels films) and is probably the only one who can confront Vader and his teacher and master, Emperor Palpatine.

Star Wars series includes the following films:

Star Wars – Episode I The Phantom Menace (19 May 1999).
Star Wars – Episode II: Attack of the Clones (May 16, 2002).
Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (19 May 2005).
Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope (25 May 1977.) (original title just Star Wars)
Star Wars – Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (May 21, 1980).
Star Wars – Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (25 May 1983).

The development of Star Trek began in 2005 when Paramount Pictures hired Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman to revive the franchise. They wanted to be faithful to the canon of Star Trek, but also introduced elements of his favorite novels, changing the story with time travel, and modernizing the production design of the original series to make it attractive to the public. The filming took place from November 2007 until April 2008 under extreme secrecy. At the same time shooting the film, Paramount decided to delay changing the release date of December 25, 2008, to May 8, 2009.
